Bio Larry Kardos

Chair, Strategic Planning

Chief Larry Kardos began his fire service career more than 20 years ago as a volunteer firefighter, where he developed a passion for serving others and a strong belief in the core values that define the fire service. That commitment has remained constant throughout his career as he has served in both fire and emergency medical services.

Chief Kardos has held roles with Greenville County EMS, Woodruff Fire Department, Taylors Fire Department, Clear Spring Fire & Rescue, and South Carolina Task Force 1. While gaining experience across multiple emergency service organizations, he maintained his dedication to Clear Spring Fire & Rescue. Beginning as a volunteer in 2006, he transitioned to full-time service and has since advanced through the ranks from firefighter to his current position as Fire Chief.

As a leader, Chief Kardos focuses on strengthening organizations through relationships, communication, training, and the development of people. He firmly believes that an organization’s greatest asset is its members. Throughout his career, he has worked to enhance organizational culture, improve teamwork, and create opportunities for firefighters to grow both personally and professionally.

Chief Kardos is a Nationally Registered Paramedic and remains committed to ongoing education and professional development. He is a graduate of the UNC Charlotte Fire and Rescue Management Institute, the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association Leadership Institute (Class of 2022), and the South Carolina Fire Chiefs Association Chief Officers Program.

He remains active in regional and statewide fire service leadership. He currently serves as Third Vice President of the Greenville County Fire Chiefs Association and has a long history of service on association committees. Within the South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association, he serves as Strategic Planning Chair and previously served on the EMS Committee for many years, continuing his commitment to collaboration, improvement, and supporting firefighters across South Carolina.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Chief Kardos enjoys spending time outdoors and is an avid outdoorsman. He also serves as a football coach with the Greenville Hurricanes, where he mentors young athletes and emphasizes the importance of faith, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and leadership.

Chief Kardos and his wife, Tiffany, are the proud parents of four children and are active members of their community. He believes that leadership is earned through service, trust, and a commitment to helping others grow and succeed.
