Fire Safe SC designations announced

April 3, 2026

Fire Safe South Carolina announced this week the departments designated as a Fire Safe community.

241 departments across the state were named in the Fire Safe South Carolina press release. The program aims to reduce fire-related injuries—decreasing the risks for residents and firefighters alike—and promote consistent fire safety messaging and stress the importance of accurate fire scene data. It is the first time that all 46 South Carolina counties are represented.

Fire Safe South Carolina was launched in 2017 in a partnership between the Firefighters' Association, South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, South Carolina Fire Marshal Association, South Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Fire Investigators, and South Carolina State Fire.

“Fire departments across South Carolina are demonstrating through risk reduction that prevention and
education are just as important as emergency response,” said South Carolina State Fire Marshal Jonathan
Jones. “Through Fire Safe South Carolina, these departments are taking proactive steps to reduce risks to their
citizens and protect their communities. Our focus in 2026 is reducing the number of home fire fatalities in our
state, and the work being done through this program plays a key role in achieving that goal.”

Fire Safe South Carolina departments will be recognized during a ceremony at Fire-Rescue on Friday, June 13 at 3:30 p.m.
